Their review was softball compared to reviews of bad movies that they actually shit on. They glossed over so much bad shit in the movie, it was embarrassing. Luke's entire arc in the movie being a complete insult to the character is glossed over. The casino subplot being a complete waste of time, same deal. Kylo Ren is a good character? Wut?

What's bad about Kylo Ren's character?

On paper, he's not a bad idea for a character. Someone who looks up to Darth Vader, wants to emulate him, but is conflicted between the light side and dark side. Okay, fine. But, the execution is just bad, imo. Kylo Ren is such a whiny emo dipshit that I can't take seriously, and it doesn't help that he's portrayed by a goofy looking fucker who looks like he belongs on the Big Bang Theory. But, you know what? This is subjective, I guess. I'm not going to fault anyone for liking the guy, it did surprise me that RLM seems to give him a passing grade.

The thing I don't understand about Kylo is who the fuck would actually take MILITARY ORDERS from him?

He's an emo git. Fair enough, that's his character. But you're asking war veterans and religious fanatics alike to take his orders, fight and die for his dumb ideals. To say nothing of moment-to-moment orders.

There's a reason we have a military chain of command. It often doesn't work out as intended, but the idea at least is the person giving the orders has a better idea of the total picture than the person carrying them out. The smartest military minds should be on the top and the grunts should be on the bottom.

Who the fuck would take orders from Kylo? What has this shitbird ever done to make soldiers respect him? It's even worse when he has his little emo baby tantrums in front of troopers.

I think his character is ok, but the way he's used in the films is hilarious. The proper role for this guy is a petulant apprentice (like Anakin was with obi-wan) under a much more experienced and skilled (and older) commanding officer. Whether that's Snoke or Phasma or whoever the fuck. Doesn't matter as long as they're level-headed and intelligent soldiers with a history of success. Kylo being involved in the first order? Fine. He has a lot of talent. But his mentality is clearly still juvenile and no military would have him as supreme commander or even #2.

inb4 muh drumpf supreme commander comparisons, but you best believe that presidents have military advisors around during warfare and a majority of decisions in a protracted conflict are handled by experienced military personnel.

I'm not demanding Tom Clancy's Star Wars, but look at the rebel "leaders" in the OG trilogy and the majority are over 30 years old and experienced. Leia is a leader by virtue of her long history with the rebels and her father's even longer involvement. Luke is essentially a grunt with privileges. Han becomes the equivalent of a squad sergeant. Kylo just doesn't make sense.

And all you need to do is compare this to what they said about TFA. TFA was bad yeah but this one is even worse and DESTROYS even more what the fans loved. If you rage on TFA you must doublerage for the last jedi, anything else doesnt make any sense.

You can pick apart every stupid thing like Luke being cowardly, the casino plot, Admiral Chelsea Van Valkenberg not telling Poe her plans, killing off Snackbar unceremoniously and Leia Poppins But the biggest issue is that for all the changes and “destroying the past” that the critics are jerking off to, the “bold new direction” still involves a guy in black with a red lightsaber leading an empire against a ragtag group of rebels who are led by a young Jedi with a blue lightsaber.

In TLA he was a kid trying to be as cool as grandpa and wear scary mask to hide that he's a fuckwit with angerissues. TLJ turned it to 11.

What would have made since in TLJ, if Disney had the balls and it's not Current Year +2, Rey would have gone more over to the dark side and Kylo would shoot his wingman when the wingman tried to kill Leia. So Leia kinda redeems her son, while Mary Rey turned ALMOST to the dark side at the end of the movie.

People will complain if the new ones are like the old ones, and they will complain if it is different. Disney played the middleground. Everything about Luke in the end should have happened like it it, only he would actually be there and killed. Maybe Rey would be so pissed that she turned a bit? Maybe Kylo kills Luke and then sees his mother and he get super conflicted.

I don't know... everything should have been handled differently and this will be impossible to fix in Ep 9.

Disney are the masters of giving you the same shit with a peppering of forced social justice. Look what Marvel comics has become: the same IPs only with womz, Muslims or minorities stepping into the role. Then the online journalists at PuffPo and Vox can hail it for being bold, brave and woke.

Rey joining Kylo and tearing down the existing system to rebuild and unify would’ve been a shocking ending out of left field that would’ve at least made me a little interested in Ep 9. As it stands, JarJar Abrams will probably retread ROTJ with another planet destroying device, Kylo tempting Rey, getting killed and atoning before he dies. Progressive party which makes sure they fit in as many Chinese people as possible at the end to appeal to that market. Fin.
