Re: Star Dreck
I fucking love Shatner. People are like "call for Muslims to be included in Starfleet" and he's like "they've never not been in Starfleet, dumbass"

Re: Star Dreck
Roddenberry always claimed that in the 23rd century people were Atheists and better off for it. So, there wouldn't be any Muslims in the 23rd century, never mind in Starfleet

Pretty much, yeah. Although for some reason Native Americans are still religious in the 24th century.Keith Chegwin wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 3:22 pmRoddenberry always claimed that in the 23rd century people were Atheists and better off for it. Fun Fact: ((A con artist)) duped the producers of Voyager into hiring him as a consultant in creating the character of Chakotay. All that Indian culture Chakotay babbles about is total nonsense that a fake Indian made up.

Re: Star Dreck
A fitting punishment for that show.
Authors and writers can have somewhat weird ideas when it comes to adapting Current Year cultures into their vision of the future. Native Americans tend to go back to their roots (instead of being fully assimilated into the greater Burger culture), and there are a quite a few Neo-Japans out there with a shitload of samurai talking about honor and seppuku (like say BattleTech, and Rifts of course). Neo-Germany on the other hand loves to bring back nobility (an almost universal constant in both Western and Nippon media).Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 4:03 pmPretty much, yeah. No way would indians still exist for more than a generation in a world where you can just replicate booze out of nowhere.

Re: Star Dreck
Shatner probably started out on the left, but decades of people annoying him and getting pissed at him for no good reason finally broke him.
If T.J. Hooker moved him to the right, then Denny Crane made him a certified legend.
Shame no one ever talks about that series anymore. Dare say it is a classic.
Here's more Shatner:
My favorite part is not just that he acts like a shitlord and shuts up that weak, limey voiced director. It's also the fact that he's right!
Anyone who who says Shatner is 'overacting,' doesn't understand acting. He turns what would be corny or garbage into something worthwhile and entertaining.
If I could switch places with him, where I fucked plenty of broads and told con neets to go screw themselves, you're damn right I'd do it in a heartbeat.
Injuns could never go into space because every proposed rocket launch site would be some kind of 'sacred ground' to one of them.

The only movie that ever did that was Pitch Black, and it was pretty obvious the Muslim was a pedo.

...and still: Spoony did nothing.

Eh. I sold my DVDs of it. It's a hard watch today largely because it's Bush era politisperging.

Watching some TOS right now, and every time I do, it always strikes me how colourful it is. I don't get why good lighting is such a rarity nowadays.

Because that makes it look more realistic. Or something.

Everything must either be gray and brown if it's supposed to be gritty, or orange and teal if it's supposed to be bright. Because anything else might look cheesy or something.
