Re: Movie Thread
Just saw Brides of Dracula. What a misnomer(the vampires in this have nothing to do with Dracula), though it's a decent enough spin-off with Cushing's Van Helsing. And they do squeeze in some callbacks to the 1931 Lugosi film, which is nice.
I really like how these films treat vampirism as some kind of zombie plague, and Van Helsing is travelling all over Transylvania, trying to stamp it out and convince people that it's real and they need to stake their infected family members.

A proper Van Helsing in this vein would be something I'd see. I miss that depiction of vampirism.Rushy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 07, 2018 12:06 amJust saw Brides of Dracula. Heh, now coming to think of it, yeah, I kind of see that. But that must've been unintentional from the writers.Tony Schiavone wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 7:12 pmEven the black dude that was possessed and an example of a 'proper' husband was basically an Obama caricature.
Dredd (2012)
Robocop did all this better 30 years ago. CG blood? Phhft. Too much of that gimmicky slow motion effect, way too self-indulgent. MaMa sucked as a character, why would some criminal gang follow some washed-up whore? Even in comic book standards that's fucking ridiculous. Worst of all, Dredd wasn't a memorable character by any means. I have hard time remembering anything he said, "choke on that" isn't exactly in the same league with classics like "Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last? I lied." Nice try tho - 5/10.

It's always fancy people in fancy castles, or some gay emos in some kind of LARP. You never really see some oldschool stuff about random yokels crawling out of their grave to eat people or other corpses.
Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

Re: Movie Thread
Forgot to mention the film's best part: Van Helsing gets bitten and manages to cure himself by burning his neck with redhot iron. Great scene, though I did briefly hope we'd get to see Cushing show fangs.

Eh, I liked it. For a current year +3 movie it's quite neat plus I'm a sucker for the Space Hulk atmosphere of being trapped in a giant place with nothing but hostility.
Her being in control did strike me as weird, though. A whore that's risen through the ranks is just dumb. Nobody respects a cocksucker.

Re: Movie Thread
I liked Dredd a lot. It was a great little action movie. It's a shame the movie came out the same time as The Raid Redemption. Both films are excellent examples of their genre, but people inevitably compared the two and felt The Raid was better. I think I prefer Dredd a bit more, but that's because it feels more realistic, despite the futuristic tone. All martial arts movies struggle with believability in a world where guns exist. Even after they've all been disarmed, there were plenty of moments when the main character could have retrieved a weapon from a corpse. A movie like Dredd or The Warriors would have shown that happening.

Yeah, no offence (actually, offence intended) but your opinion doesn't matter. Even guestposters think your opinion a shit and you still thinking Fury Road was any good proves them right. I commented because I have authority on this subject. When the cake is speaking, the crumbles ought to shut it.
