Oh man, I friggin' love how Saitama got his super strength by doing nothing but workouts. It's like he lives under FF2 rules or something.

Saitama getting his powers from an exercise regimen is not only brilliant comedic writing but it makes the audience more invested in him, since he's not some "destined savior." He's a jobless bum who wants to be a hero because he can afford food that way.

Japanese are weirdly hung up on Muh Bloodline Powers.

Other heroes seem skeptical of his origin... could there be more to it than just exercise? I kinda hope not. I like all the dumb superhero bureaucracy too.
It sometimes reminds me of the old Tick cartoon from the 90s.

I hope that's just some meta-parody of fan theories.

I think I almost got a stroke when I read up the full lore regarding Ichigo Kurosaki's origin. He's like some D&D munchkin build, except not the fun and interesting kind of build, but rather the one that just hits you for 200d8 damage or something.

Nurutu's whole deal at the start was that he a was a good for nothing kid that nobody liked that had a demon living in his belly, but by the end it turns out hes the kid of the hoekawgay, the demon thing gave him edgelord powers, he got to cum in Hinatas's eyesockets every day (Hinata was also a useless good for nothing but she was the kid of the main Bakugan clan, she got the shit smacked out of her by Neji, the kid from the secondary Bakugan can, but by the end shes fucking the king while Neji is one of the only characters that dies)

Basic bitch workouts, no less. Not some kinda Goku "trained in a time capsule for hundreds of years under five time normal gravity" kinda bullshit.
This is still my absolute favourite thing: https://youtu.be/km2OPUctni4?t=168
Everything is perfect about it. The inner monologue, the mystery, the serious time, the absolutely over the top power of Saitama just throwing a half-normal punch. Genos' reaction is hilarious. Smashed about a dozen clichés in under a minute and actually well.
I love how Genos at that point realises what's going on. Actually realises it. Saitama doesn't not give a fuck because he's a dick or anything. He doesn't play by the same rules of the whole crazy universe around him, but would love to. He's basically a god and likely even above that.

That really is the funny thing. There is no struggle for him. He skipped it so much with so little effort, he's exactly what he was before he wanted to become a super hero. A loser that doesn't get to partake in the whole being a hero thing that world revolves around. What actually makes him the hero of his story is that he's accepted his fate. There is no explanation. He didn't become too strong via the usual shonen mechanism of overcoming the next bigger and bigger threats. He suddenly was just the strongest being ever. He'll never get to use his abilities fully. He'll never have that struggle. Other's don't even give him the acknowledgement of having worked hard for it because he didn't.

The real reason he's the hero is that he's mostly indifferent about it. Others would've gone crazy.
In a way, it even taps onto something else never ever addressed in shonen. Goku, Naruto, Ruffy keep getting stronger and stronger by overcoming ever increasing threats. How is it those threats ever got so strong? Why was there some dude just plain a thousand times stronger than Goku somewhere on his way to Earth? Why do they always come perfectly staggered? How high will that shit ever go? Saitama is basically the end boss in this strength battle and has no clue why. There better never be an explanation for it.

The best part of him skipping the struggle is that's really his character conflict. They get right into how boring it would be to be so super awesome that you're actually too awesome for people to know how awesome you are. People think Saitama is a boring jobber because that's how it looks to them. It's like someone heard all the criticisms of Superman and condensed them all into a show and made Seinfeld out of it instead of a typical shounenshit animu. What Saitama really wants is that feeling he had before he got his powers, where he was fighting with everything he had and didn't expect to make it. But he'll never have that feeling because he's SSJ God Blue Fused while the strongest bad guys are barely breaking super saiyan 1.

And they better not change that because that's what the show is.

He doesn't even get the alien invasion dude. He's been searching for somebody able to challenge him, waged wars over it, annihilated worlds. Saitama didn't even get to get to that point. He didn't outmatch his opponents and eventually got too strong. He got way, waaaaaaaay stronger without any of the stuff in between.
The closest being he's ever met that he could possibly relate to and he's outmatching the fucker so bad and didn't at all share any of those experiences. It's like some dude that crossed the ocean swimming talking to a fish about the struggle to swim as well as he does.

Get Out (2017)
Loved that movie for all the "wrong" (i.e. not popular media) reasons. The villains were basically Dems that tried to pass themselves off as progressive but ended up using them for their own means and comfort anyway. Even the black dude that was possessed and an example of a 'proper' husband was basically an Obama caricature.
The point of the movie was essentially a black KKK movie warning about trying to go back to the old plantation and better to stay with your lot.
Is it perfect, or even really good? No. But it probably does more for the good of this country than anything else.

I think that's why they hyped marketing without really talking about it. They were caught in an impossible place between shutting down a black director and popular with minority audience or admitting to the message. In the end, they decided to do the 'safe' thing--by just pocketing all the money they could, then never mentioning it coming to DVD (or ever again).
...and still: Spoony did nothing.
