I like that it never really explains it's world in more than a very half-assed way. The setting is pretty cartoonish but it's not used in a fourth wall breaking, dumb way, like it would be these days.
That's actually a quality of many animes. They don't feel the need to justify their dumb shit as much.

All fiction is kinda stupid, even the good stuff. At some point Hollywood forgot that movies were supposed to entertain above all else.
I've never seen the Warriors, pls do not bully.

The Warriors would actually make for a cool animu. Though there probably are animu like that around, just with school deliquents.

"They don't feel the need to justify their dumb shit as much"? You haven't seen contemporary shounenshit that's all about what I like to call "power porn", where the writer invents some intricate system how of all the different moves work so characters can spend a few pages explaining how special they are.

Animu that never justify their dumb shit period are typically shoujoshit. The Warriors are basically magical boys.

The world of the warriors feels cartoonish and silly, but also kind of realistic. Again, the prom scene at the end. We only ever see slums and gangs for the entire movie, so it's a massive tone whiplash when this normal teenage prom party get on the train. We get to see that there are still normies out there doing normie shit, and we can feel the disparity between that and our heroes even more. These kids are truly on the bottom rung of society, and all that talk about running the city was so attractive because it gave the guys some hope for a better future.

And there's no resolution to this thread. Maybe the kids will go on to have better lives. Maybe they won't. The movie only covers the one day in their lives. The movie doesn't need some elaborate explanation for the world. It's just there.

Above all, it's an entertaining movie.

Watch all of it but at 3:50 to 4:23 is what Kugel is talking about.

I only saw The Warriors about a year ago. Wasn't quite what I was expecting. Might have to check it out again.
There was the line "We're acting like faggots!" in there that really should be a meme.

All of Ajax's and Luthors dialogue is great it's no wonder they were the most successful actors to come out of the film.

A shame Michael Beck's career was destroyed by Xanadu.

I like how the motivation for killing Cyrus was "I dunno man, I just like doing stuff like that." Why not? In a gathering of street gangs like the movie has, you pretty much expect some crazy shit to happen. All those gangs, there's always gonna be that one gang that's full of crazy idiots.

It's also one of the better movies for explaining why everyone didn't have weapons/guns. A lot of martial arts movies fall apart on that point because there's no logical reason to use martial arts when you could use guns. The Warriors and The Raid are the only movies I can think of that address it in a way that makes sense. And in the case of the Warriors, they take every opportunity to find weapons along the way, so they don't come across as stupid as typical martial arts movie protagonists. Yakuza movies kind of fall apart here too, because while Japan has strict gun laws, they're not so strict as to make getting guns *impossible.*
