It got switched in Europe as well. There where only a select few titles who kept the Japanese layout, particularly most MGS titles (at least the PS2 era) and I think Xenosaga and Zone of the Enders as well.

Did they also call triangle "delta"?
Nah. It's the X button, the O button, the triangle button and the square button. We call it an, "X," button because it's a lot easier to know what you mean. People tend to associate the term, "cross," with the Christian symbol.
The only game I've ever played that calls it the, "cross," button is a Harry Potter shovelware title.
"Cross" could technically refer to "X", "+" or the Christian Cross. "X" is a lot less ambiguous and universal.

The only time I've seen "X" referred to as "cross" was in some gimmicky game and anumi titles where saying "X" was apparently not kewl enough. Or you get shit like You-Gay-Bros ZeXal where the X is just a background decoration.

If they made the dock for the switch have processing power so it could actually play some games in 1080 that would of been great, instead it's a shitty overpriced piece of plastic

One assumes circle being confirm goes back to the nes controller or some shit, even though X as confirm feels better for my hand.

○×△□ bullshit happened because Sony was too autistic to go with ABCXYZ (Nintendo/Sega) or roman numerals (NEC, tg16). Sony just wanted to be original so bad.

Here's the explanation for why they did that, supposedly. It's fucking stupid of course, especially since no one ever followed the convention.
Other game companies at the time assigned alphabet letters or colors to the buttons. We wanted something simple to remember, which is why we went with icons or symbols, and I came up with the triangle-circle-X-square combination immediately afterward. I gave each symbol a meaning and a color. The triangle refers to viewpoint; I had it represent one’s head or direction and made it green. Square refers to a piece of paper; I had it represent menus or documents and made it pink. The circle and X represent ‘yes’ or ‘no’ decision-making and I made them red and blue respectively. People thought those colors were mixed up, and I had to reinforce to management that that’s what I wanted.

They had to have something that was distinct from the competition. At the end of the day, I think that's all it was. They needed *thing* and someone came along and made *thing.* And nobody cared because the layout of the buttons is all that matters, and that the controller works well.

The basic design of the controller worked so well that the ps1 controller is basically the prototype for a standardized type used by the majority of players today. PS1 controller + original Xbox s-type or whatever it's called => refined down to xbox 360 controller, and then everything after has been closer to a ps1 controller than what came before it.

I like how Nintendo didn't bother to give you the option to change A & B. Everytime I swap back & forth between Xbox and Nintendo controller my brain starts an all out war with my hands

Nintendo always used A to confirm and B to decline. Sony practically followed suit, just called their buttons differently. Despite the explanation I think it's got to do with patents. Same reason nobody but Nintendo has a proper D-pad. Microsoft just switched the letters up because you can't patent letters, just their placement on buttons on a controller. At least that's what I think is the reasoning.

Since the dock doesn't actually do anything, I wouldn't really call the Switch a hybrid. You can hook up your PSP to a TV as well and that's really all the dock does. It's a portable system, despite what marketing claims.
I always knew there would be a Smash for it. I always knew I'd buy it for it. Had the MonHun not had an upcoming PC release, I'd have bought it sooner. Since Smash Ultimate will come out in early December and Nintendo won't drop the price until then I figured I may as well get it now and play Zelda and Mario.
That being said:
- It's too expensive for what it is
- It could easily have had more processing power
- The dock doing nothing in that regard is a missed opportunity if I've ever seen one
- While the library will likely become awesome eventually, right now, unless you really want to play Mario Odyssey or Tennis Aces, there are no super great exclusives yet
- You can get Zelda BOTW for the WiiU if you have one

When it has ran it's course, you'll likely absolutely want to get a Switch. Just like getting a 3DS or Wii is absolutely worth it due to a strong library and easy custom firmware and pirating, it's likely going to be the same for the Switch.
Soyboy meme aside, it's a future classic in the making.

Oh and I was surprised at the quality of it's fabrication. The dock doesn't scratch the screen, at least mine doesn't and it's not as flimsy as I thought it would be. It's not the Nintendium indestructibility of a GBA SP but it's no worse than a n3DS XL. If you warp it or break off the joycons, you're a brutish moron.

I'll just do what I always do and wait until the end of the library and see what games it has. In the great console war, I feel like the pisspoor is superior at the moment because it has muh bloodborne.
