I would say that roguelites are way easier, since any 2D platformer worths its salt requires good level design. Roguelites just need random shit.

Pretty much. We had the super meat boy craze of shitty 2d platformers where you die a lot and now we have shitty roguelite action games with mild rpg mechanics and some kind of system like Rogue Legacy where you have to die to progress/you get bonuses that carry on after death to make the game easier the more times you play.
Rogue Legacy and Meat Boy are both terrible btw.

The only rogue-lites that I can play are Risk of Rain, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and FTL.
Haven't gotten around to trying Enter the Gungeon but from what I see of it I'd probably like it.

FTL looks good. I play Don't Starve, Nuclear Throne, Darkest Dungeon and a few others, but most fail to keep me interested. I played risk of rain for a while, but I still find the game a bit generic and it makes a very poor first impression (you start with only one playable character and it's the class I hate the most.)

This reminds me: Does DoomRL count as a -like or a -lite? It's certainly ASCII, but it feels relatively fast and furious.

That's an actual roguelike. They don't have to be slow. Go watch some dude that knows what he's doing play Nethack or DCSS and you will only barely be able to follow what's happening even if you really, really know the game.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 4:55 pmThis reminds me: Does DoomRL count as a -like or a -lite? Shiren the Wanderer is the same. It's turn based and tile based but you can play it super fast if you know how.

Basically, you can play every roguelike really fast if it has autowalk. Cataclysm is another one like that. Especially if you're in a car.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Thu May 17, 2018 9:40 pmShiren the Wanderer is the same. It's turn based and tile based but you can play it super fast if you know how.
