Brand loyalty movie-fags are really annoying, as if a movie being able to stand on its own two feet and be standalone, enjoyable and have nice aesthetics is some kind of crime nowadays. I get that everything under the sun has been done already, but I don't need to see A New Hope Version 389793 : Multicultural Edition just because it's the new hip Star Wars movie.

The whole thing honestly reminds me of housewives arguing over at the supermarket over what kind of brand bleach they should use to unclog the toilets and remove the minerals.

I don't even know why you would go to such lengths to defend the film. It's not like it's high art or a misunderstood cult film like Blade Runner or Apocalypse Now or some shit.

It's a mass-produced, commercialised piece of pop culture crap. It took the audience for their money. It made its billions. It did what it set out to accomplish. It doesn't really merit any further consideration than that.

And that's exactly why I haven't seen it or any other Disney Star Wars and never will. I don't need to watch some cynical garbage that's made with only profit and fagshit political agenda in mind. There's absolutely nobody behind those movies that acts out of artistic motives or is interested in telling a good story.

And Voice, it's far from guilty pleasure as well. It's not a series of movies that's just made as something fun to enjoy as you go along.

"His" (looking at his profile, it's another pronoun Warrior) argument is that the EU came out of a need to distance themselves from adolescence.
I would argue it's the opposite.
Everything in the EU is shinier and runs cleaner. You don't even see details like Han wearing a headset to fire the guns anymore. The only grit comes when the director wants to make its especially "ooh, he's/she's so tough...let's smother them in grime. Make it more 'real!'" Mirroring how kids at play nowadays cannot truly get hands-on or cause a mess or sweat because of overbearing parents and germaphobe policies that push sanitized fun.

The focus on lightsabers was because of an explosion of make your own stunt videos where everyone wanted to be a lightsaber star. Forget that they were only meant to serve as a narrative backdrop and allegory to the ideological conflict (the way most fights were portrayed). Hell, even Ang Lee's Hong Kong bullet movies were framed like that.
Nope...gotta go full speed weapon-fu.

Ewoks were cool because they could actually do stuff. They built an awesome tree culture and even if the fight was far-fetched, at least they had balls. Even C3PO was given a chance to be useful.
Ever since Jar Jar you could completely remove the "cute" characters and nothing would change in the movies.

Luke's stuff wasn't just feelings. They actually showed him training; most of him in the second movie was nothing but. There's nothing like in the EU to show or do that. Anakin's stuff is all crazy adventure with no guidelines or him ever showing respect for rules and structure. The Council is set up like dominos just to be knocked over later. Ditto the "Resistance." The Rebellion never had losses like that. You also got to know more than three characters in the original--the General on Hoth, the lady in the Yavin base, the old guy explaining the Death Star plans; hell, that's why come we got Wedge.
How many rando side characters can you name that have personalities but don't really have names in the EU movies? Are any of them cool enough where you want to know more about them?

Luke milking a puppet has nothing to do with being canonized. It has everything to do with giving up. If he was canonized he'd be like Ben Kenobi, actually hanging out and giving advice to random strangers and being eager for adventures.
In V, he unsuccessfully convinced his father, get his hand chopped off, and fell down the chute to hang by his knees. Only reason he didn't fall down the bottomless pit was important story reveal. Here Leia becomes magically invincible for no other reason to show everyone she can and still lose anyway. Looked like a kid wanting to have their princess moment at the party before everyone goes home.

George made his movies as wide-appeal commercial vehicles, sure, but he had to make them well because he needed the money and fame. Nowadays, these movie will already print money just by coughing on the screen. The studio knows it will sell just about anything they do, so they go for immediate fan marketing feedback and hire director to do anything they want, so long as it pleases the surveys.
It's the same thing now in comics and WWE. They know a certain percentage will buy them no matter how crap.it is, so they hire people for marketing and image reasons and let them do whatever drivel.
