A cherished night of my life was seeing Carpenter perform his music live on tour circa, maybe 8 or 9 years ago. About half of the show were themes from his movies and the other half was stuff from his new album of instrumentals that sound like they SHOULD be the themes of movies. The cool thing about the show was that, to my memory, everything was played live. Nothing came out of a laptop. It was all keyboards, guitar, bass, and drums. It sounded amazing and Carpenter himself was having a great time.

Re: Movie Thread
I rewatched Tokyo Gore Police for the first time in over a decade. It’s basically a Paul Verhoeven film by way of Japanese splatter film, right down to the satire and fake ads and a scene straight from Starship Troopers. It’s like Suda51 binged Robocop and decided to make a movie instead of a game.

DETOUR (1945)
The Criterion Collection's 50%-off sale started a few days ago and I spent about $200 right away. One my purchases was this legendary shoestring-budget film noir on shiny Blu-ray. It's one of the most pessimistic films of its time. The lead character is a loser who keeps getting kicked in the balls by life. He witnesses an accidental death that happens to look exactly like a murder. He flees the scene, certain that the law would never believe the real story and hooks up with a monstrous woman who takes full advantage of his vulnerable state.
While watching it, it struck me that much film noir anticipates the modern incel, MGTOW movement. In these movies, women (the femme fatale) tend to lead men to ruin and this film is an over-the-top example of that. Ann Savage in this movie is amazing as the worst bitch you've ever seen.

It’s decent, not as good as a Paul V film, but not bad if you want some cool over the top splatter and monster designs. This guy called the engineer puts these key shaped tumors in people and it causes them to have a latent mutation, like one dude is a chainsaw maniac and after they cut his arm off it turns into an organic chainsaw. It’s fun schlock if you don’t mind the violence.Rapeculture wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 5:14 amNever seen it, but well aware of it. Neat creature design.

Re: Movie Thread
Having a lovely evening tucked in my bed, watching Die Hard. Just finished the first film, and I'm probably gonna watch the second as well. I can't be bothered beyond that, though.
You can make a solid case for both 3 & 4 being better than 2. But they just don't feel the same anymore. The late 80s is gone, Christmas is gone, McClane's wife is gone. Even the basic Die Hard formula gets abandoned. It's good, but it's not what I fell in love with.

Wasn't at least one of those supposed to be a Lethal Weapon sequel?
Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.
