I made a long-ass post about this earlier and then deleted it. Basically yes. Soap is not hard to make in real life even by accident. People who washed their clothes inevitably figured this shit out.

Oh and technically speaking, Jews didn't invent soap either. No medieval peasants had perfume. They did have soap and of course water and they absolutely washed themselves. They just didn't take a full bath every day.

What you're thinking of is the Victorian era with upper class faggots dousing themselves in perfume to cover their stench. They bought into their meme of a gentleman never being dirty so much they saw washing themselves as an admittance of being filthy.

Having poor hygiene isn't something new, old or exclusive to any civilisation. Wherever there's poverty or stupidity, you'll see filthy people. Always has been that way, always will be.
