Re: Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
As a Thrash Metal fanatic for life it shouldn't be surprising that when I like Black Metal it's usually when it's the first wave kind that's close to Thrash or it's Blackened Thrash.
So one of the first songs of the sort that I liked was I Am The Wargod by Deströyer 666
Fucking awesome and epic! Those riffs, the melody that hooks, the drums that just hammer along! Fantastic!
Long intro riffing, sure, but it's all great.
Great solo as well, building up to the climax! All building up to the crazy release at 6:15, with a reprise of the main riff. Great shit!
The album released on January 1 2000.
I've been listening to a lot of Absu recently, as you know. So I just listened to the In The Eyes Of Ioldánach EP by them. Generally considered one of the greatest EPs of all time and one of the few that are regarded as highly as full LPs.
The fourth song is especially well-known. Never Blow Out The Eastern Candle, often included as a bonus and played live.
Huh, that's curious.
Overall not too dissimilar melody. Compare Absu at 2:00 to D666 at 5:15. Isn't that the same crazy riffing for a build up?
And after that what Absu does, D666 basically did in front of that with the same melody. This is basically the same song, just restructured and played slower and and more epic by D666.
In The Eyes Of Ioldánach came out in 1998 and the song was public in 1995 via an Osmose Records compilation.
As far as I can see, nobody ever called.out Deströyer 666 outright ripping off Absu.
I don't mind it. I think it's different enough. Just found it weird nobody mentions it.

DHI's favorite would be Genocide City Zone.

Re: Kugel's Metal Sperg Zone
I know it's not Kugel's favorite kind of Metal, but I was thinking about favorite albums a while ago and decided Paranoid is probably my favorite album overall.
It's not a deep cut or anything, but I can enjoy listening to this entire album. Every song on here is at least decent, and I rarely hold that opinion about any album.
Usually every album has something on it that's shit.
Even Rolling Stones. I've listened to those classic era Stones albums and there's often some complete garbage in there.

He'll mistake Cobra for his daughter.

That's because you don't know enough albums and why EPs are very popular in the Metal underground.rabidtictac wrote: ↑Tue Feb 04, 2025 7:58 pmEvery song on here is at least decent, and I rarely hold that opinion about any album.Usually every album has something on it that's shit.

Often a 7" with three great songs is better than an entire LP with as many and then a load of filler songs.
Demos are also very popular. There are several bands where their demo is the best stuff they ever released.
