If his house actually has mold then, coupled with his obvious mental issues, that explains every problem he's having. My sister had the same thing happen and she was almost as much of a drama queen/hypochondriac as Spoony can be. Once the mold was gone she was 100% better. She also woke up to how dumb she was and stopped doing that crap.

On one hand it makes perfect sense because Spoony and April are exactly the kind of helpless coddled retards who get swindled into buying a mold-infected house. I've known more than a few people like them who sign leases without ever pausing to think, wait a second, why is this place's rent 35% cheaper than every other house we've looked at in the area? And what do you know, six months later you hear that great place they found had mold and now they're living in a studio apartment.

Spoony's problem isn't depression, bi-polar,whatever else . It's not even hypochondria or a feed back loop of worry. Spoony's problem is very simple.
