Lindsay's novel isn't that way at all. She's doing the basic bitch, 350-500 page book. She frankly doesn't deserve a hardcover. The garbage she writes should be printed on paper scraps and sold next to Harlequin Romance novels and porno mags.
I assume the increased price is because she's self-publishing, and that this is also why there's no paperback option on Amazon, and only the hardcover. FYI, lest you think I'm picking only on the grandpa media, that Kindle version is overpriced as fuck too. $15 for an electronic PDF you can download. Do I have to point out how many fantastic books you can get completely free for your e-reader these days? And if not free, then for a pittance.

Just one example^. A lifelong author. He has a ton of books up on Kindle for around $4 apiece. His prose is highly competent and his novels are entertaining. He has not been a commercial success despite producing high quality work. But he prices his stuff fairly, he's prolific, he maintains a solid level of quality despite that production rate... He's everything Lindsay is not.
I'm not bringing him up as an example of the "best author ever." He's a very workaday, solid writer. He's what I would expect to find when you go looking at ANY genre fiction. Talented, productive people who have not been commercially successful, but they have been able to publish books on their own merits (not as a result of being a fucking e-celeb) and their work stands up to scrutiny.
