Re: Non-cape tv show
My problem with Cercle Rouge is that I found the acting to be very flat. Love Le Samourai, though. Day of the Jackal, by Fred Zinnemann - is even better. Branded to Kill is the peak of that kind of movie.

Well, clearly Locke is aware and acts accordingly, as you mentioned yourself. And the rest of them are clearly aware of supernatural shit going on when the smoke monster turns up.
To argue that it's not our world is just autism. If you don't understand the difference between an actual fantasy world and telling a story in our world but with supernatural things happening, I'm sorry but you're too stupid for fiction.
And it was shoehorned in shit. Them forgetting to explain the smoke monster was an actual meme. It was just some thing to bring in early on to surprise the audience and then they didn't know what the fuck to do with it, hence the thing being mostly absent. The explanation later on was just then trying to justify it somehow. It never had any meaning or purpose when it appeared other than to be a surprise for the audience.

They're not aware until they arrive to the Island. Because they're the protagonists. They're supposed to stand in for the audience as they're introduced to the fantastical elements.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 2:04 amWell, clearly Locke is aware and acts accordingly, as you mentioned yourself. To be unable to see a fantasy world as anything other than a land of fairy-tales and dragons is pretty sad.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 2:04 amTo argue that it's not our world is just autism. I won't actually disagree with you there. I didn't mind the explanation for it (it was worth it for evil Terry O'Quinn and Titus Welliver), but I can see why some fans wouldn't like it. See, this is where you can have an actual debate on the quality of the show. Not that "loose ends" crap you were peddling before.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 2:04 amAnd it was shoehorned in shit. Them forgetting to explain the smoke monster was an actual meme. Re: Non-cape tv show
They aren't aware before then because it's a story taking place in our regular world and the island is the only place in this story where supernatural stuff even happens. That's what makes it special and a story to begin with.Rushy wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 2:13 amThey're not aware until they arrive to the Island. Because they're the protagonists. Exactly the opposite. To think a story clearly taking place in our natural world and then something extraordinary happening makes it instant "anything goes" world is crippling autism.
The world of Lost isn't supernatural by default. The island is the exception. That's the whole fucking point and what even constitutes a story.
Did John Locke just stand up and go "Oh cool, I guess this is one of the magic places I can just walk again."?
No. His whole motivation and character is formed by the island being an obviously special place, something others wouldn't realize so soon or not to the same extend.
That's when the show was still good.
But by no means does that mean if a dragon just appeared that it would've been cool as well.

That's patently false, though. Supernatural phenomena occurs off-island as well. It's even established that the Island is not the only source of "exotic energy". It's just rare.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 2:58 amThe world of Lost isn't supernatural by default. The island is the exception. You're obfuscating the point of you declaring it a fantasy world with no rules being absolutely ridiculous.
The only people affected are people interacting with the island.

Re: Non-cape tv show
We do meet several characters who are implied to be supernatural independently of any connection to the Island ("There are certain places with great energy -- spots on the Earth like the one we're above now. Perhaps this energy is geological -- magnetic. Or perhaps it's something else. And when possible I harness this energy and give it to others.")Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 3:07 amYou're obfuscating the point of you declaring it a fantasy world with no rules being absolutely ridiculous.

In any case, what does it matter? The Island is just where the story takes place. But we know its powers can affect people anywhere. The point is that the supernatural is very much part of the fabric of LOST's world. It's not a bizarro one-off. The Island is also implied to be tied into the creation and existence of Earth. How much more supernatural can you get?

Re: Non-cape tv show
It's still the source and my point is that it's not just a fairy lala-land. No story is. Ripley isn't going to levitate a Xenomorph by shouting "wingardium leviosa" while weiding a chopstick. It's not the logic of that world.
I think the resolution of Lost was absolute garbage. In fact, the show was total garbage a few seasons in. That's not even an exclusive opinion.
I will no longer discuss that shitty show. You wouldn't possibly make me like it because your whole point is "I liked the ending" and mine is "I think it's shit".
