My father lived in Germany in the seventies and he commented on the number of Turks packed into a small housing complex. After a while they'd earn enough money and went back to Turkey to live the good life. He also had some great Turk stories from Cyprus.

Sounds about right. Most were true guest workers. Some industries used to be absolutely dominated by Turkish labourers. Some still are, like Tiefbau, which is basically roadside digging construction jobs.
All those trenches everywhere dug for fibreglass cables are 100% Turkish workers in some cities. In others it's Polaks.

They've really cornered the market of used car sales. Some of them obviously make a lot of money. They likely don't pay fuckloads of taxes via off the books sales.
