Law/Neutral/Chaos is easy and quick, and doesn't get too much in the way.

The Good/Evil axis opens the can of worms that is Detect Alignment. Aka "Did anyone notice that this Wyrmtongue guy is just radiating eeeeevil?"

This would also allow Paladins to be more than just Lawful Good since religiously driven figures are notorious for being selfish, when you get down to their true motivations.
I think this alignment restriction no longer exists sicne 2 editions. Even 3rd edition introduced variant classes for different alignments.

EDIT: I realize you may have meant morally and idealistically moreso than mechanically but I have nothing to add except that one chooses to be a Paladin for the narrative benefit over choosing to just roll a Cleric. There are far more situations you can realistically be in as a Paladin that you wouldn't be able to as a Fighter, Knight, or Cleric.
Paladins would be amazing for any kind of adventure that requires a court scenario.

Spoony's greatest fear shouldn't be Trump, or nukes, or whatever the hell else he thinks politically is out to get him.

He should be afraid of the day when the whole world gets better, and everyone else moves on. And it's just him, stuck way far behind.
Fucking savage because it's true.

The whole Good/Evil- Detect Evil thing pisses me off for this exact reason. It makes so much intrigue impossible in the world because any random cleric can just use this magic detection spell to tell who the bad guy is. It gets even more retarded when you think about how the world should actually work based on this. Why are evil people, religions, etc ever able to get into positions of power? Surely at least a few nations would start doing random alignment tests like drug tests and kick any leaders to the curb the moment a test showed they were evil.
Except for Chaotic Moron of course, because Chaotic anything is pretty retarded if it's shorthand for being random. Most people aren't random. Even unpredictable people follow an internal belief structure which seems consistent to them.
Chaotic Moron is usually played by players who are morons. I'm currently playing a Chaotic Neutral character who can basically be summed up as "only cares about protecting his own skin, but won't go out of his way to hurt anyone else." Chaotic alignment isn't a problem if the player isn't a moron.

Lol nice.

If there is ANY restriction on being a Paladin, they should have to be Lawful Something.

A Chaotic mindset doesn't befit following an Oath, and being Neutral could maybe work, but with how specific Oaths can get, you act on it and suddenly aren't neutral. Paradox.

To add to the shitty debate about alignments, Lawful Evil should absolutely be a viable alignment for clerics and paladins both. Lawful Evil as a philosophy fits perfectly into the teachings of most organized religions. And don't think I'm just shitting on religions because I want to tip my bedora. Lawful Evil as a philosophy doesn't mean EVIL in the same way as Hitler or whatever other godwin'd example. It's a way of seeing the world.

Most judges and lawyers in America are arguably Lawful Evil individuals, if we were to categorize people that way. That's their fucking job. A D&D classification as "evil" shouldn't be a moral judgement, merely a classification of philosophy.

Except for Chaotic Moron of course, because Chaotic anything is pretty retarded if it's shorthand for being random. Most people aren't random. Even unpredictable people follow an internal belief structure which seems consistent to them.

Obviously there's the tabletop shit I don't know about because I don't play tabletop shit, but the games at least always seemed to have a very shallow understanding of alignments.

The Spoony household is dead, their twitters gained sentience and keep posting more tweets, the thing seen on the livestreams is Spoony shambling corpse, April died while "playing" Skyrim and Oreos starved to death.

I remember some old dude calling spoony out in a video on one of his counter monkey episodes because he got some vintage d&d shit wrong.

Ha, this reminds me about the old "alignment language" bullshit from 1st Edition D&D. It was supposed to be a sooper sekrit language involving hand signals and verbal cues that people from other alignments couldn't ever learn. What were Arnenson and Gygax smoking when they came out with shit like this?

Anyway, I'm afraid of clicking on this video and contracting the Tism. A bideo responding to Sploopy's fake nerd credentials about OG D&D? I don't know if I can handle this.
It's ok. I watched it. It's just a sweet old guy who survived cancer talking about D&D. He was in the military, and probably can fight unlike Sploony.
Would you give his wrinkled old penis a hand job?

Well, he was bound to run out of new stuff to tweet eventually. He has probably done it before, but nobody noticed because nobody's reading all of that shit.

Any D&D world should be a Good utopia.

And man, I wasn't even going into D&D religions. How much sense does it make to join an objectively evil church?

"Welcome to the Chaotic Evil church of Fhug'U, He Who Wants To See The World Burn. We want to destroy the world for the lulz, and our ceremonies involve murder-raping the weakest member our group. To top it all off, your soul will be eaten by demons upon death. Isn't that wonderful?!"
