really thwart his plans, and even helped anakin fall to the dark side. He wouldn't have given it an honest try even as a favor to Darth Vader? He didn't seem like he had any particularly strong grudges towards padme. He doesn't really seem to be lying as it's revealed in the sequel trilogy, he does a lot of force cloning experiments and stuff. He could have cloned her body and transferred her spirit somehow if things didn't go so badly on Mustafar that he had to rebuild Darth Vader.

I assumed he wanted her dead so Vader had nothing to distract him from serving the empire.
