If payments resume, will interest compound over all those months it was suspended?

The interest rates were frozen for the duration of covid. There's no interest to compound. When you go to the company servicing your loan, it shows 0.00 in all categories. Loan servicers would open themselves up to massive lawsuits if they tried to manufacture interest that had been waived previously by the US government.
Keep in mind these are not private loans. The money for these loans was provided by the US government, not an individual corporation. The covid student loan stay of execution was already agreed upon by the government. This court case is challenging the loan forgiveness, not the covid stay. Unless I'm very much mistaken.
I don't think many people are against the stay on student loan payments during covid. A lot of people lots their jobs at that time and rent skyrocketed. Their businesses failed as a result of quarantine restrictions. Or they were told outright (as with Gyms) that they could not operate in any capacity.
The question of whether or not student loans should be forgiven entirely is separate from whether or not a temporary reprieve was appropriate during the height of covid quarantines.

I'm okay with that. After all, the state caused the issue in the first place.
