Ukraine is already practically landlocked. They can't be resupplied by land or sea, the Russians have air superiority. The Ukrainian forces have no mobility, they're running out of food, fuel and ammo and they can't be relieved because all the forces that could relieve them are busy fighting the Russians in the Kiev region.

It makes zero sense for Putin, at this stage at least, to open up another front in Moldova. It does however make perfect sense for Zelensky to try and lure the Russian forces to the border with Moldova and away from the Donbass, where Ukrainians are currently suffering heaviest casualties. It also makes perfect sense for Zelensky to go 'See, see, I told you it was a war for territory. Give me aircraft and more soldiers, or Russia invades you next'
