FYI: 40,000 troops is like a third of initial invading force. If Russia lost that many troops they would A) stop taking territory and B) become more desperate in their attacks (i.e by bombing more civilian locations)

Ukrainians, on the other hand, don't have an airforce left, don't have a navy left and have resorted to using civilians in Mariupol as human shields.
