Putin relied on the central bank's foreign exchange reserves, but if the recent policy of the EU, UK, Canada and the US to freeze is successful, Putin will have only domestic gold reserves at his disposal (and possibly 30% of Chinese renminbi reserves). Russian banks can not stand the escape of deposits indefinitely.

I'm also not sure how someone concludes that the collapse of value on Russian companies doesn't impact the average citizen much at all.
