What was the big deal about the Bogadoff twins besides the memes and botched plastic surgeries? From my understanding they were failed sci-fi authors that later became businessmen.

No, that was pretty much it. Kikepedia says they managed to get a bunch of nonsensical theoretical physics papers published in serious academic journals. But I never heard about that, I only heard about the memes
