It's really just stuff like Shadow of the Demon Lord or Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay where people are smelly shitfarmers. Most players just prefer to have fun colonizing dungeons without having to wonder where they're gonna poop.

Plus lighting has always been a bit of a muddy field. D&D loves listing off how far the various torches and lamps shine, but it's not like you could easily keep track of that shit before the rise of virtual tabletop software. Plus "Low-light Vision" or even "Darkvision" have always been such common racial abilities that humans are the weirdoes for not having either.

At least they avoided the blunder of Vampire: The Masquerade, where fires are one of the major vampire weaknesses, to the point that looking at a fucking candle has a chance of triggering a PTSD attack that will cause the vampire to rip off a couple heads. It's a wonder they survived from the days of the Old Testament to the present day.

Fire is a retarded weakness. What lifeform isn't "weak" to fire?

Their excuse was that fire is one of the few things that can seriously damage the vampires (aggravated damage, which can't be mitigated unless you have the Fortitude discipline).

Of course that's still retarded because all the other sources of aggravated damage (supernatural being claws and bite, toxic waste, radiation, etc.) don't have a similar PTSD effect on vampires.

World of Dorkness writers just loved weird rules that solely existed to fuck you over, which culminated with Wraith: The Oblivion where every character had an eeeevil shadow that solely exists to fuck you the original over.

It's a lot like the "head weakness" of zombies, really.
And it's probably a result of World of Dorkness having both "lethal" and "super lethal" damage.

I think one version of the rules (Revised?) said that if you had double or more Courage rating you could avoid roling to run away screaming from things like a lighter. Same reason you dont botch getting up in the morning.
Fire also dies agg damage to every other creature, so theres that (which is why a Garou with Master of Fire suddenly just become a game of napalm wolves).

Agree, though--you'd think Gangrel's claws are way more scary than some lame Tremere's one damage puff of fire.
...and still: Spoony did nothing.

I mean, we are also weak to fire. It burns us and suffocated us and gets out of control easily. But you don't freak out anytime you see a lit candle.

It'd be like a human freaking out at standing next to a highway. Nothing's bad gonna happen unless you fling yourself onto the road.
Plus it is a well known fact that the Castlevania Dracula has control over fire, so why should it hurt him more than a crucifix boomerang?
Really this was just some asshole rule to take away control of your character whose ramifications haven't really been thought through all that well..

It was an attempt to give vampires a fatal weakness on par with a werewolf's weakness to silver.

Yeah, that's what sunlight is for. And while silver is somewhat rare and expensive, sunlight is free and predictably available every single day at roughly the same hour. The "panic to fire" thing is just dumb.

(Another way in which Mages are superior to every other WoD supernatural beings: they're humans who are not susceptible to a werewolf's Delirium, nor specially vulnerable to anything - but with the same stats as other supernatural beings AND much better powers overall).

Aykshurely the most powerful WOD shmucks were the Mummys, but what good do your world-altering spells when you are basically playing a Buddhist monk on a path to enlightenment and even thinking about doing some mischief with your spells causes Spoony-levels of anguish or you risk becoming a Wraith, or cease to exist. Not even oldschool paladins have it this hard with failing a moral codex.

The second most powerful beings are Demons, but there are roundabout 3 persons who owned a rulebook. You are in more luck to find players for In Nomine Satanis than Succubus: The Rapening
