Some guys on Usenet are saying that Alec is also the Producer of this movie. Which means he does bear some of the responsibility of the murder. He probably hired these tokens himself instead of experienced men that knew what they were doing.

He bears all the responsibility. You don't fire the fucking fake gun directly at people, because even blanks can hurt. You aim over the person's shoulder or otherwise away from the target. There are safety regulations in place to stop exactly this kind of thing from happening.
