Lockheed Martin, Toyota, etc. are funding and backing an authoritarian state model. Afghanistan was about funneling tax money into private companies. There was no government, just a corrupt shell designed to pull money. There's no loyalty to that. There's more money to be made particularly if the US public can be taxed and have no say in how that money is spent. Which is to say, you are going to see a bunch of corporate money working to cut Biden's throat. You've also got the wobbly Left after him, which is why the Senate and possibly House go back to R and then we get Trump again or something else. Biden is pissing in the Cheerios of the military industrial complex so the hatchets are out.

The Mujahideen were united tribal factions where the Taliban are al Qaeda trained Pakistani faction. This is why the Mujahideen collapsed so quickly after Russia, they couldn't get past their tribal bickering and the Taliban just moved on in.

Also, the Mujahideen are probably in their seventies by now.
They're still Mujahideen. The original Taliban leadership were all ex-Mujahideen and the current leadership would most likely have been trained by Mujahideen. Al-Qaeda is Mujahideen also, that's why they had such a big thing about CIA training Bin Laden.

This current crop were at least trained by, if not descended from, the ones that beat the Soviets. It makes sense that they know how to fight. The CIA trained them.

Trump was pissing in their Cheerios too.

I really don't see the neocons recovering from this. They've got a lot of balls though, suggesting we should take in the Afghan refugees, sparking a whole new wave of terrorism.

I remember someone saying that the Russians were doing pretty well in Afghanistan at first - the mujahedin couldn't reach them in their Soviet helicopters, and they were shot at will from the air. Then they started getting some shiny, glowing-in-the-dark weapons that definitely could shot down Soviet helicopters, and them shit went south really hard for the commies.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Arming people who hate us was never a good idea. You'd have thought the CIA would have learned this from World War II if nothing else

They do this shit because of flawed McCarthyist worldviews that teach them idealistic enemies are so dangerous we should arm anyone who wants to fight them, including corrupt despots, child-rapers and sadists.

And other idealists. Mujahideen were Islamic militants. NATO also let off a load of ex-Nazis because they were such good anti-communists
