I saw a meme where it featured live action Rocky and Bullwinkle, Yogi Bear, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Sonic, and the format is main white character in a car with CGI versions of old cartoon character. 2 late 4 me to find it.
I've seen that meme. IIRC, two of the movies even had the same actor as the human in the car.

The Fat Albert movie also had the characters come into "the real world" instead of having them just be humans for some reason.

TV Tropes calls this type of movie "Human-focused adaptation".

Just like slasher movies, adapations for shit like cartoons or game have one major fill-in-the-blanks blueprint that most studios are too afraid to change, and that one always comes with a main protagonist that has nothing to do with the original IP, and it usually involves the characters from the IP coming from their more outlandish world to our world because that's cheaper to film.
Though I was almost amazed they're still using the blueprint in Current Year when I read the Sanic movie synopsis. Only Burgerland would do that shit.

That Fat Albert movie thing sounds like the studio figured black and/or deathfat people aren't real people, which sounds a bit problematic.

Thank God they don't do that anymore.

I miss Animatronics Goro.
And man, this here just reeks of stupid
"We felt it was okay to have a new character in a game that brings out new characters all the time."
You're not making a game, dummy. You're making an adaptation of an existing IP. Use the existing IP.
The character serves as a device to introduce the world to a new audience.
Why can't any of the existing characters do that? I'm pretty sure any normie watching a MK movie is at least somewhat aware of Scorpion. Plus pretty much every good guy in the original movie had no idea about the whole MK tournament, so they explained everything to everyone.
According to McQuoid, Young’s role is “so anyone who’s not a Mortal Kombat scholar or doesn’t have a PhD in Mortal Kombat like a lot of people do, they’ll be able to enjoy it as well.”
Ah, yes, the major flaw of the original MK movie was that it never explained or established any characters or concept. I never could figure out what was even going on until I've played through the entire MK catalogue

(They are aware that the point of most Hollywood movie adapations is to retell the original story in a way that normies can follow, aren't they? This article makes it sound like they're making a movie spinoff for an animu or something, which are always written with the audience having watched the animu up to this point in mind.)

They're just trying to walk back their racism against whites.

WB movies suck balls this year. Anyone hoping Dune is going to be different is in for a deep ass gape.

Remember when the LOTR movies came out and they had this new character that isn't in the books be the main guy so everyone understood what the story was about?
Of course you don't, because it didn't happen. LOTR isn't as complicated as the deep and intricate Mortal Kombat lore after all.

It's especially funny considering Current Year is obsessed with origin story movies that showcase every single babystep of our hero.

It's completely retarded what WB did with MK. The only Soy boys I know who liked the movie always point to the Gore as why. Like who gives a shit if the movie is retarded.

There was no reason to have a OC who is the hero of the story.

Why couldn't they ressurect fan favorite character Shujinko?
TL note Shujinko means protagonist.
