Predators was okay. So were the AVP movies. The only awful entry was the one where Olivia Munn plays the smartest woman in the world.

Predator 2 is cartoony, but it's watchable. Predators is literally just "what if we made Predator as a mediocre time waster instead of an action thriller classic"? It's not bad, just unexceptional.

The Predator on the other hand, is an offense to the fucking senses and the embodiment of everything wrong with modern filmmaking.

Predator 2 really needed Arnold. The Gary Busey character was meant to be Arnold. But Arnold only had space in his schedule to do either T2 or Predator 2 and he didn't like Predator 2's script and Cameron offered him a lot more money. So he did T2. He made the right choice.

"Predator 2 would have been good if it hard Arnold in it" is child-logic. They needed a good director, Mctiernan or someone at his level or with a similar ethos. The guy who they got to direct it had to much of a comic book sensibility to him, and he was clearly disinterested in doing the movie. For the third Predator movie they got the bright idea of hiring Robert Rodriguez, Tarantino's less talented Mexican sidekick who in turn farmed it out to some nobody journeyman director who was probably just there to shout action and cut. Shane Black wrote a few decent scripts in his day, but before Iron Man 3 (a nothing movie anymore could have directed, as per the Marvel formula) he was a director of tv movies and frankly he never outgrew that. He was never going to live up the first movie, his movies don't even belong in theaters.

People hem and haw about Predator and Terminator and the like being dead concepts but the fact is any story can work in the right hands. The problem is Hollywood has stamped out the kind of man who can make a movie like the original Predator. Directors who may not be masters but still know what they're doing and know how to make a real movie. Only certain kinds of filmmakers are allowed to have careers in the studio system now, either managerial hacks like the Russo Brothers or subversive faggots like Rian Johnson or pampered pet diversity hires like Jordan Peele.

As for the old guard? Well, they're old and they haven't guarded shit. They either got with the program or got frozen out. I wouldn't give a fresh Predator sequel to John now, but maybe his successor. The problem is, if he even has one he's not working in Hollywood. He's not working anywhere near the entertainment industry because they'd never let guys like young John Mctiernan, James Cameron or John Carpenter near their backlots today.

Hollywood is devolving, even the old Jewish producers and studio execs are just plain worse at their jobs than the Jews that came before them. Just as greedy, perverted and conniving but also lazier and less intelligent while also fancying themselves "creatives" in their own right.

Tl;dr: We don't get movies like Predator anymore, or even decent sequels, because the kind of men who made Predator can't get a job in modern Hollywood.
