Also a bit problematic as her opinion of other female chess players isn't all that high.Le Redditeur wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 12:36 pmThey could have done a series about a real female chess GM (Judith Polgar), but that would have been too much work.

Re: Movie Thread
I kinda like that series, but I'm talkin' like a two-hour three act structure movie.

It's made by gays for dumb women, of course you love it.
Re: Movie Thread
They also do everything to cover up the fact that it's based on the Walter Tevis novel, the guy who wrote The Hustler and The Color of Money. No boys allowed!VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Fri Mar 05, 2021 11:35 amNo need for that. I think Netflix has some series about a female chess master. I think they got flak for having her mostly use famous moves done by male chess players.

Re: Movie Thread
My friend and I watched the 2020 movie Underwater last night. I’m a big fan of the late 80’s deep sea creature features like Leviathan, The Rift, and Deep Star Six, and went into this one with low expectations. Kristen Stewart is bland as usual, but it did have a cool pressure suit implosion death scene, something I don’t see often.
Now the monsters were barely seen and unremarkable, but the end reveal caught me off guard. It was fucking Cthulhu, the actual god himself. Apparently it was a late in filming addition, but there is a scene with a pentagram on a map that made me wonder if we were going classic Doom territory.
Throwing Lovecraft into something doesn’t make it automatically good in my mind, but I admit considering I was dozing off/zoning out near the end it was a surprise. Surprised they didn’t put a “Lovecraft was a big old meanie racist literal Hitler” disclaimer at the end.

Your mother recommended it to me. Not as good as her head, but it was ok.

Also interesting that they didn't advertize being a Lovecraftian movie more.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 3:05 amThrowing Lovecraft into something doesn’t make it automatically good in my mind, but I admit considering I was dozing off/zoning out near the end it was a surprise. Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

Re: Movie Thread
I guess it was meant to be a twist? I’ll admit I was not expecting that at all. It was one of those poorly lit messy camera movies where you’d easily lose track of what was going on, it actually was okay for maybe 30 or so minutes, albeit with some dumb moments.VoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 8:17 amAlso interesting that they didn't advertize being a Lovecraftian movie more.Old Black Man wrote: ↑Sat Mar 06, 2021 3:05 amThrowing Lovecraft into something doesn’t make it automatically good in my mind, but I admit considering I was dozing off/zoning out near the end it was a surprise. Re: Movie Thread
It was certainly better than crap like Cloverfield. And the last scene was two attractive women running around in the water in their underwear.
