I think the problem was too many season and having some season-spanning metaplot shit. Just give us a monster of the week, dammit.

Isn't Grimm exactly that? I remember catching a few sparse episodes on TV when I needed background noise and those episodes seemed self-contained monster of the week affairs. Although there's probably very much faggotry involved in that show as well.

They started heavy on monster of the week shows and then started adding in more meta-plot shit too. The metaplot didn't really go off the rails until the last two seasons though. The monsters started turning into X-Men characters with telekinesis and laser vision and head exploding powers instead of just being different flavors of werewhatever, and then it went all in on secret societies and alternate dimensions. Of course it ended with all the characters teaming up to fight a magic villain with a skull for a face.

It still never got as bad as Supernatural did at its lowest point, probably because Grimm didn't overstay its welcome the way that show did.
