Cats trick you by being cute when they're kittens. Coincidentally, I ended rescuing a kitten abandoned on a nearby groove yesterday, and it is absolutely adorable. But I'm pretty sure it will grow to be a big cat (it already has disproportionally big paws and ears).

My older cat. however, didn't appreciate it one bit, and every time it sees the kitten it hisses and runs away from it. Cat knows cat, probably.

They can be perfectly fine pets. People just have these weird expectations of cats specifically. Everyone knows and agrees that there are many things you have to keep in mind when dealing with dogs. But for cats they just expect to do whatever the fuck they want and the cat being fine with it.
Go ahead and constantly bother a dog when he's trying to take a nap. Do that for weeks and see how it likes you.

You can't just expect a predatorial animal to behave like a passive prey animal. Get a bunny instead if you want that.

The Lupas and Armzgurls of the world keep them around because they think they're lower-maintenance than dogs.
But I think that we should keep them around. At least until we have figured out how to genetically engineer catgirls.

That's normal for cats to not like a new cat at first. (Just imagine if you came home one day and there was some guy you didn't know hanging around your house. That's how the cat sees the new one.) You've got to keep them in separate rooms for a while so they get used to each others scents, and swap which rooms they stay in. Eventually they will get used to each other.
