Thankfully most of them are long distance friends. The local ones are more sensible. I have rule about not discussing politics with most people for the sake of preserving friendship, but I’ve got a couple who have brought this up to me. One claims he’s an independent and that Trump is being childish, but after hearing that Detroit leak my skepticism has only grown stronger.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 5:53 amIf you think your liberal friends are frothing now, just wait until the news finally admits Biden isn't going to be Prez. Anyone I've lost contact with due to politics is on my MineCraft list automatically. Soon as the purge starts in MineCraft the deletion shall commence.

Re: Have you lost friends over politics?
There's a music forum that I've been posting to for almost twenty years. It's intensely boomer. People in their 40s, 50s, mostly. I've met many of them in person. They know my name. I know most of their names. Some of them have my phone number. Facebook friends, the whole deal. It's a real community and I enjoy it.
BUT they have a politics forum in the off-topic section that is wall-to-wall Lefty bullshit. A few right-wingers have jumped into it over years, but they very quickly get pig-piled and shut down. I post in it about twice a year and put on my Disappointed Democrat act (if you want to hide your Republican leanings, but still talk politics, act like a Democrat who's just disappointed in where the party is going; that's my method, at least).
On my birthday last month, someone there started a thread called "Help me figure out why anyone likes Donald Trump". The replies were predictable. "He appeals to racists and this is a racist country". "He appeals to misogynists and this is a misogynist country". Nazis, hate, ignorance, blah blah blah. Trump supporters are the lowest of the low and some people outright said that they no longer speak to some family and friends over it.
On that same day, some of those same people were sending me nice Happy Birthday messages on Facebook and through text. We had fun little "catch-up" conversations. "Have a great day, old man!" "Tell your wife I said hi." "Hope COVID passes so we can all meet up again next year".
And they had no idea that they were being nice to a "NAZI"!!!!1!

Logged into r/aikido for the first time in nearly a year and was presented with this gay shit:
tl;dr - America is racist. Vote Biden, educate yourself. (Because only white people use the internet.)TOGETHER, WE STAND - As the issues our world currently faces brings to light the level of racism, injustice, and inequality marginalized members of our society must endure and the silence they are met with when seeking justice, r/Aikido would like to take a few moments of your time and say that we fully support our brothers and sisters in their movement to eradicate the systems in place that protect the perpetrators while leaving those most vulnerable at risk. We want to iterate that these conversations are hard—sometimes they get heated, but that doesn’t mean we should stop talking about them. In fact, communication may well be one of the most important ways forward. We can all do a little better to make the world a kinder place to live in. We don’t need 10 people to be perfectly compassionate human beings, we need a billion people working towards being more compassionate, even if imperfect, human beings.
While the task can seem monumental, and answering the question “What can I do?” daunting, just educating ourselves on the problems and issues at hand is a great first step. Voting in your local, state, and federal elections, spreading awareness, getting involved in community programs that seek to address the issues are all wonderful ways to move forward. You are not alone, we are not alone—we are part of a community and we thank you for being part of it too.

I just know, man. Biden will make way for Kamala one way or another, and after that having another cis female as president will no longer be enough.

Re: Have you lost friends over politics?
Thass rite. Aikido is mostly bullshido. There are a few good practitioners out there I'm sure (there always are for any martial art,) but most of it is play-acting and overly-complicated theoryfighting that doesn't work.
Simple test: Try any of your aikido moves on someone who is 100% resisting you. Not pretending to resist. Someone who actually resists you as much as they can. You'll find out real fucking fast how worthless aikido is. Hell, just the fact that a resisting opponent gets sweaty and can easily slip out of holds that way ends up screwing over a lot of their bullshido moves.
