A.Lange & Söhne, pretty much the most high quality German watch manufacturer, finally released a stainless steel sports watch. Or at least that's what they claimed they'd do and so the watch world was waiting for years.
And it's fucking shit. What a massive disappointment.

You can get $25 watches off Amazon that look nicer than that.

That was the problem right here and there.

It's not quite like that. Lange only does dress watches but people have been asking them and wishing for a sports watch by them. Not that unreasonable, seeing as the "holy trinity" of Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin all have one.
In short, quartz watches nearly killed the whole watch industry so they needed something to keep it alive. Gold watches weren't really doing well anymore. So the solution was to do something different and instead make a watch in stainless steel, something unheard of for those luxury watch makers up until then and just charge ridiculous high prices for them.
Patek has the Nautilus, AP has the Royal Oak and VC has the Overseas. That saved their asses in the 70s. In fact, especially AP basically has the Royal Oak and nothing else anybody cares about.

But Lange never made anything in non-precious metal, despite that still being the thing that sells best. So everyone just assumed they'd eventually make a stainless steel watch, despite them claiming they'd never do so.
So here it finally is. And everyone is disappointed.

At least with them you know they've been in development hell. Lange claimed to never make a stainless steel watch just up until half a year ago and just two months ago it was nothing but a rumour. They also claimed at release that something about the development took them five years, but not this watch alone.
Still, I can't see what could've possibly taken them that long.

Look here listen, I know watches aren't something entirely just plain plausible or logical. Without getting too much into it, those afore mentioned stainless steel watches are massively overpriced. But at least I can see why somebody would want them.

The first two are designed by Gerald Genta. The Royal Oak was the first he designed. The Overseas isn't by him but when people asked him he didn't deny it either so for years people just assumed he designed that one as well.
You can see one thing quite easily, which is that they are at least not boring. The VC is my personal favourite.
It's not like people expected Lange to do something exactly like those. But they expected something more interesting than what they delivered.

But you wanna hear the worst thing? It's sold out regardless. The first production is already gone and I'll bet on the second one selling just as fast.
