A fascinating read, this. I was always under the impression that Roddenberry had just lost touch with reality a little bit when he was doing Next Generation, but apparently he'd become so paranoid after losing control over the movies after The Motion Picture that he hired a regular Saul Goodman lawyer to essentially showrun the first season of TNG for him.
