Re: STD
I saw a few episodes of Discovery, and it was rather embarrassing. Leaving aside the massive continuity issues, it's just a really dumb show with several key issues:
1) The entire universe revolves around Michael Burnham, and she's not an interesting character.
2) There's way too much fanwanking going on. Enterprise became continuity-heavy as it went on, but it always seemed like it was doing something interesting - such as building Starfleet's trust with the Andorians and Tellarites, developing the Vulcans from xenophobic assholes to what we know, elaborating on the Klingons' change in design or just having plain fun with the mirror universe episodes. In Discovery, nothing is added by including the mirror universe since even the main universe is so vaguely defined. Nothing is added by bringing back Harry Mudd or Spock or Captain Pike aside from "oh they're things we know from TOS".
3) Everything that's not related to the TOS fanwank is extremely feeble. The crew doesn't feel cohesive at all, they're all interchangeable aside from Saru. Hell, even the captain is new every season. The spore drive thing is ridiculously OP for the TOS era(it's like that Warp 10 thing from the infamous worst episode of Voyager, except as a major plot arc) so obviously they have to go to extreme lengths to explain why that shit never shows up in any other show. I'll take Enterprise's duller episodes over this fanfiction nonsense any day.
Also, the visuals are so overstylised that it becomes weary just watching the thing. The Abrams films started this trend, but at least there they had the excuse of it being for the big screen.
And they didn't do this embarrassment:
I fucking hate that Previously On segment. It makes TOS look like 60s Batman. On an episode that's actually cerebral and slowburning, no less. Who the hell thought this was a good idea? At least when Doctor Who did the same kind of meta previously on segment, they treated it with some respect and tried to align the two eras as best they could.

Re: STD
What the... they included Harry Fucking Mudd? That recurring comic relief villain? I don't even want to know how in-name-only he is in this shitshow
Also what in the fuck is up with the editing in that video? At least the Batman sound bubbles were pleasant to look at. This is just some asshole coming up with as many eye-cancer-inducing screen transitions as he can.

I could've done better editing on Win 98 with WMM as a teenager. Shameful.

I never saw the episodes he was in, but I heard he became some kind of murderous psychopath who looped time to kill people over and over again like Dr StrangeVoiceOfReasonPast wrote: ↑Sat Sep 07, 2019 8:36 pmWhat the... they included Harry Fucking Mudd? Re: STD
Because she's a black female with an unambiguously male name raised to be an emotionless traitor and eventual Emmy winner.
Not sure why they can't ever set a series to be another sequel--or just somewhere else. (Beta Quadrant?) If you want to bring back original actors, just have them jump through a temporary time loop or whatever. Continuing to rehash old shit means they have nowhere to go with the series.
The real problem though is that the actress is terrible. No personality, nothing bubbling under the surface.
Compare to Nichelle Nichols:Show

Re: STD
Black female or whatever, she lacks substance, because she only exists for the plot to function. There is no Michael Burnham outside of the context of Discovery. She has no habits, no normal daily life. What does she like to eat? What's her favourite game?

Re: STD
You may as well have her be silent/mute then.
