Can't say much about college, but English literature in school is mostly relegated to English class, since we already have more than enough Kraut literature. And English classes - at least the ones I frequented- seem to have a thing for dystopian novels (ended up reading Animal Farm, The Giver, Fahrenheit 451 and 1984).

Kek, of course they didn't assign Brave New World; don't want the kids to start questioning mindless hedonism. Anyway, is The Giver proto-Hunger Games trash, or is it a legitimately good dystopian novel? All I know is it's a young adult novel that's frequently assigned in American high schools.
