It doesn't help that many animators straight up left and went to better ventures with anime like Masami Obari when he stopped caring about hentai animation in the mid-90s or when Urushiahara decided that making artwork for SEGA and publishing his own magazine was far better than making an anime if everybody would be out to suck his money and then lambast him. Add to the fact that if anybody wishes to watch hentai they'll just buy a game and watch the now "animated scenes".

Hentai, as in the animu smut, is almost all old as dirt shit and dead as hell. Doujins is where it's at and has been for many, many years and incest stuff largely surpasses tentacle stuff in that field.

Look up Another Lady Innocent. It's Urushihara's culmination as an animator and hentai artist than basically sunk his company in debt due to how utterly expensive it was to make and people mocked him for doing something so stupd instead of simply making middle-of-the-road fap material. They previously fucked him over for Legend of Lemnear as well, never even praising the animation or artwork, which caused him to go work on vidya for some time(it's when Langrisser and Growlanser surfaced as well).
