I've never thought about the fact that dicks were always censored most of the time but tentacles weren't so I looked it up and apparently the tentacles were a work around the dick censorship. Plus they couldn't draw pubic hair in anime until the late 90s (so lolicon ensued) which is funny considering here irl most pornstars shave their pubic hair.
