That tired old meme again. There's absurd sums of money being made with books and it's growing. My shitty, little super market in bumfuck nowhere makes well past 10k Euroshekels a year alone.

See, this is where you're fucked up. The kind of books you sell at your supermarket, no offence, are more likely to be airport novels. Cheap, disposable trash. Not exactly high literature. Yes, there's a lot of money in airport novels, and in books generally. But people do not read. We as society are used to getting information quickly. It takes time and dedication to read someone's six hundred page life's work, which is exactly why most people don't.
Must be why so many fictional novels today are part of six-volume+ fucking series then, innit?

"People have no attention span" yeah sure, that's why they watch longer and longer youtube videos, watch 7 seasons of some hour-long-per-episode tv bullshit or read 9 volumes in a fantasy series.

They're probably just buying those books and not reading them.
Normalfags dont value their time, but books also take effort.

You fail to realise that most of these books don't come out all at the same time

Most of those 'hour long' shows are about 45 minutes if you take out commercials, there are only ten episodes per year as opposed to the 22-26 that used to be standard as long ago as twenty/thirty years ago, and if you look at studies most people are on their phones or doing some other shit when they 'watch' these shows. My mum always talks about perfect ironing shows, in other words shows she can have on in the background whilst she does household chores like ironing or folding socks.

A lot of the tv shows are in commercial-free formats. So no, they're not 45 minutes. You can just check the runtimes yourself. 50 minutes minimum. A full hour if it's HBO, usually. And normies talk about binging shit on nigflix all the time, or binging seasons of gayshit like Gayme of Thrones or Dexter which, again, is HBO.

If anything, normies have far more attention to give to stupid bullshit than I think they should. Look at all those retarded hour-long cable news programs boomers watch. An hour of people who know nothing arguing about nothing.

You've basically ignored my key points. Okay, let's agree for the sake of argument that Game of Thrones or Dexter actually are a full hour as opposed to 45 minutes. There's still usually only ten to thirteen episodes a season. There's a lot less of it to pay attention to.

Then there's what I feel is my best point, which is that more often not most of these people aren't giving their full 100% attention to the shows when they're watching them. Most of the time they're on their phones or they're folding socks or they're doing something else. My younger brother? Never puts his phone down. Never turns it off, it's always going off with some alert or a friend has texted him or some other bullshit. He almost never gives the television his full attention, and you know what? He's like a majority of people that way.

You mentioned cable news. All of this is especially applicable to cable news programs. CNN is, more often than not, blaring out in airport lounges whilst most people are waiting for their flights. Even at home, those old people aren't hanging on every word the talking heads are saying. They put it on so they can tune out.

I don't know exactly what you mean by airport novels. You mean those slim ones?
Most by volume are "damaged" books. Book prices, as in the one printed on the back cover, are binding in Germany. Much like the price on a pack if cigarettes is. The only exception is "damaged" books, which just means they get a stamp on them, declaring them as such but most of them aren't actually damaged in any way. It's usually excess prints. They go for 2,50€ and sell like sliced bread. It's absolutely everything from Fantasy to SciFi to non-fiction about any topic you can think of.

Next by volume is north German crime novels. Basically thrillers that are set in local areas and islands. Tourist bait for reading on the beach and such. Very clever marketing, even better profit margins.
Lastly, the current top twenty best-sellers. Lowest by volume but highest in profit margin by far.
It's really just about any kind of book. If all groups of wares would sell that well and unproblematic I'd keep the store forever and would laugh all the way to the bank.

Reading doesn't take effort. Practically everyone can read, nobody but the lowest of ghetto trash is proud of not reading books and if you think reading takes effort or that normalfags don't read you're out of touch. Normalniggers read way, way more than you think. Especially women read shitloads.
Information? What are you on about, Keith? Novels are and always have been the vast majority of books. You're basically claiming that nobody watches movies because there aren't many documentaries in cinema and that anything that isn't one doesn't count as a movie because it's just shallow entertainment. No shit it is.
You guys are on a full on "not a true Scotsman" rampage.

Normalniggers read. A lot. Much, much more than you do. Sales numbers don't lie. If you think that people won't sit down to read a book for hours on end you're just plain wrong.

And how'd you do that with a book? You can't exactly have that as background noise. Even if he checks his phone in-between, he's not going to keep flipping pages without reading and then go "Wow, what a great book! I'll go and buy another one to not read and spend 15 quid on it!", is he?

Women generally read cheap trashy romance novels about stable boys with big throbbing monster cocks who have secretly pined for the heroine from afar and just want to ravish her.

Information /= facts. What we're doing here is, we're having a conversation but what we're really doing is exchanging information. And if I wrote a big fuckhuge wall of text, would you honestly claim you'd bother to read it?

Again, I'm not claiming that. A) because information /= facts and B) because film is exactly what I'm talking about when I say people like to take in information quickly. Most films are two hours long. You can absorb all the information in a film in two short hours. By comparison the book that the film is based on might take an individual person say about six hours to read and absorb, depending on whether it's a 200~ page book or a fuck you 1000~ page door stopper.

Sales information only tells part of the story. Most people who 'read' tend to read disposable thrillers and they tend to read them while they're waiting for the train, or the bus, or the plane, or whilst they're on the train, bus or plane.

And that's your entire point, really. And what is it? That people don't read because they don't read "right" or don't read what you deem worth reading.
>nobody reads
>everyone reads but not in this specific way so it's not reading

You're being silly.
