Any of you spergs know about cars? I have a question.

It's been balls cold here and I have a car that won't start if it's under like -10 C/10 F. I got the battery tested and they said it was good, however once that temp drops the car won't even attempt to turn over.

I've read its one of a few things

1. Battery
2. Starter
3. Electric

Any ideas?

Get the alternator checked too, oftentimes that's the problem. Parts plus labor for that is like $800-$1000.

I should also mention theirs no check engine light, though I'm not sure if they could be a issue. Also the car doesn't need jumped when it warms up, it will start up right away.

With so little information it's really hard to say what's causing the problem, but here up in the north when car doesn't start on cold weather it's almost always a battery problem. Recharge it and if that doesn't help then change it. But if you're sure the battery is fine, of course there's a whole myriad of other possible problems. It could be a high viscosity engine oil, viscosity of oil thickens as temperatures decrease and it hinders rotation of the engine when the friction is high. It could be a weak spark plug(s). Could be a dying starter.

That is one possibility, but if the car starts fine on warmer weather I wouldn't look that as a primary problem.

If it doesn't even attempt to start it's the battery. A fucked battery can be totally fine voltage-wise just sitting there but will crap out the moment you put it under load.
Does it start fine when you use jumper cables even if it's cold? If yes, that's the battery.

I think my car did something similar during winter. And wouldn't you know it, the cold had finished off the old battery.

Sure enough once the sun came out the car started with fairly little trouble. Guess I'll try the battery, starter next maybe.

Year and make? Some car are notorious for hard start-ups in the cold. We've been getting -30c nights here, sometimes -40 when you factor in the windchill. I suggest plugging your car in no more or no less than four hours before you start. Cold oil adds a lot of friction to the engine so it might be enough to prevent it from turning over. Also, a battery heater is a wise investment, but I doubt you get the same temp we get in the Great White North.

Speaking of which, a found some bright yellow drops under my car after an unusually warm day. I suspect it's corrosion from the salt on the exhaust pipes as it only happened when we has an above zero day. But I have to take it in for a check just in case. It's all under warranty, regardless.

One of my closest friends who I've known for 12 years is a communist. Not even a regular communist, a Stalinist.

The problem with this is, my family is from the Eastern Bloc, Poland on my father's side and Lithuania on my mother's. My great-grandfather's cousin was a Leninist hunter arrested, condemned to death, and shot in Irkutsk. My great-grandfather himself was an "accursed soldier" (the name given to members of the Polish resistance by the Soviets) and associated with two men who attacked a Soviet van and killed 6 members of the Red Army Choir. He was going to be sent to the gulag, but he managed to escape back to America.

I told my friend this story and he said my great-grandfather was obviously a horrible person. Nobody in my family was a kulak or remotely wealthy. We're descendants of Russian serfs who ran away to freedom in Poland. They resisted the Soviets because they were destroying their homeland.

But I can't even argue with him because he's well-read and also very arrogant, so he runs circles around me in any kind of political debate.

Those kinds stay within the sphere of academic discourse because it's a lot harder to argue with bullets flying over your head.

The reality is Stalin was a murdering dictator who let his people starve to death. Communism failed in the soviet union and we don't mean it failed academically or failed as a thought experiment. It was a failure from the beginning and the end result was massive starvation and extreme hardship. The only people who did well under communism in the USSR and China were those political worms who managed to occupy the new aristocracy. All communism did was dramatically lower the living standards for everyone while swapping a few of the old bluebloods for new, communist versions.

It's easy to win an argument in a debate between friends. Especially if one party hasn't been practicing their rhetoric. It's a lot harder to sit there in the middle of bread lines and starving farmers and talk about the glorious stalinist vision.
