The problem with them is that when it comes to determining haplogroups (which determine where you are from genetically) your mother only gives you her mother's haplogroups. In other words, that DNA test is going to ignore your maternal grandfather. Males though give you both.

And you go further along the family tree more people get cut out. For example, your father's mother's father will also be ignored, and your maternal side is going to lose a ton of people since your maternal grandmothers father will be ignored too. It will keep going on like this unless you get the DNA of relatives who can fill in the gaps, like the grandfathers themselves if they are alive or uncles who carry the haplogroups. That will increase the accuracy big time if you fill in enough holes.

When I was a kid I was riding out with a guy from my class, sledding down a popular hill on a snowy winter day. Dude rode belly down and right into barbed wire face first. His shit was all fucked up. Wasn't really nice going back to his home with his face all bleeding.

It's not any better when you've been around for the event. I actually think it's worse.
