I'm sure that is true for some of the writers and producers behind the show. But others have been quite vocal about how bullshit this all is, even Groening.
I don't think they wanted this particular controversy. If it was for ratings, they'd get pull a stunt like killing Apu off.

So is Netflix's Castlevania cartoon really overrated or am I missing something?
All I remember from Season 1 is that nothing happened until the very end of the Season.
I'm partway through episode 2 of Season 2 and nothing has happened. Just "bla bla bla" people talking. And talking. And talking.

They EVENTUALLY go to Dracula's castle and fight him. But there's way too much stuff with the different vampire factions plotting against each other and Dracula. (There's a female vampire trying to take over complaining about the "man children" Vampires screwing things up. Ugh.) It actually does end, but some of the other villains nobody cares about are still hanging around.

Who hired the clowns that wrote this? Do they not know how to write for animation?

Groening hasn't actually worked on the show in decades. You have this problem because pretty much everyone who was either involved with creating the show or worked on it when it was good has left and been replaced by hacks and 'fans' who don't actually get the point of the show or its characters and see only an empty space within which to inject their personal politics.

Yeah this is surrendering plain and simple, this has been going on for over a year now and they finally gave in.

The show is still pulling in a ton of viewers, sure it's not as good as the early seasons, but remember there is SOOOOOOOO many different ways to watch entertainment now that it's bound to happen even if it was good.
