I would actually like to play devil's advocate and say Youtube, blip etc, DOES owe these guys money. They made the original monetization offer. It's not like the fucking numa numa guy refused to show himself dancing like a retard unless they paid him for it. To be told you're going to be paid for whatever the hell it is you're doing and then be told we aren't paying you anymore is bullshit. Controversy? Controversy is what was getting ad-views in the first place? Talking about the security instability of being a nobody is one thing, but Contracts, goals etc., be damned, you can't act shocked and horrified when the people you reneg on complain on you renegging.

I agree with that. It's why I stated that monetisation for everyone was a mistake. I'm sure it wasn't a mistake for YT financially because as easy it would be to believe that they are complete retards - what with notifications barely working, site design getting worse and worse and subscriptions in general having been defunct for the better part of the last ten years - Google aren't dumb about money.
But fucking hell did they ever create a monster by going that way instead of hand-picking people to pay with strict regulations.

If you think Google was dumb enough to promise them a specific CPM then you need to realise Doge doesn't run the company. If they actually did that and didn't have a condition saying it can change whenever they want then the people bitching wouldn't just be whining in videos, they would sue youtube together in a class action.

They knew what they were getting into, if they didn't they were delusional, that's why patreon exists. Though if people like Larry are telling the truth with the 1000 for $5 motto then a 300k video gives him 1500, and he does about 2-3 a month + 500 on patreon = 3500/5000 a month, l'm not sure if brits pay taxes but let's say he pays daniel and taxes with patreon and he's still pulling in a really good income for doing research work in your underwear, it sure beats retail or shitty office work like lk hating himself everyday. People say poor YouTubers but I have 0 sympathy for them, with that much money you could easily invest for a rainy day.

The problem I have with the way YouTube and the Advertisers(tm) are handling this whole situation is that they're basically saying that nothing that can even be considered slightly controversial can be monetized any more. Crying out loud, there are people reporting that having words as innocuous as, "kiss," in their titles are getting them demonitized.

If they laid specific ground rules and made it obvious what was going to be allowed and not then I'd have less issues. I still think it's a dick move to do what they're doing this late into the life cycle of the site, however, and while I don't have any sympathy for a person getting an easy ride through life suddenly having to actually try, I do sympathize with the level of confusion and anger they're feeling due to a bunch of easily offended millennials having their voices disproportionately heard. It's to the point that some of the oldest things you're taught (IE: sex sells, controversy will get people's attention, etc) and have seen proven true time and time again are suddenly considered negative, bad, and not worth a company's time.

How big of a percentage was the drop? I'm curious since it's big enough for a lot of youtubers to bring up and bitch about, even ones I sub to that never talk about youtube every day like Boogie does.

Depends on the time of year, but my average was about $8 and up to $12-$15 during the run up to Christmas. But I do get better ads because of my content and target audience. Also, I don't bite the hand that feeds me and publicly bitch in videos everytime something goes wrong, and YouTube DOES notice.

YouTube is also doing this stupid thing where you don't get any ads whatsoever in the first 12-24 hours of a video going up, which is often it's sweetest cherry, so that's more the issue than actual ad rate drops.

Thanks, I highly suspect YouTube is trying to cripple these eDrama channels as much as possible to deter them from making further videos. It's bad enough that bad stuff happens on YouTube, like PewDiePie's Nazi thing, but these drama channels are smearing the shit for more to see.
