GG was a way for e-sperges to get famous super quick by making shitty vlogs stating the obvious or reacting to news articles from feminist rags nobody outside of a Berkeley student would ever read. Miscarriage of Acchild got famous from GG. Most of the antifeminist spergelords we know about? We only know about them because of GG. They rode that wave like a motherfucker. Then you had the Davis Aurinis and RooshVs who saw how many sperges were lining up to get cucked via patreon and other funding sources to listen to shitty vlogs, and they thought "hey, I have shitty vlogs as well! I should poach this audience now that people are trending antifeminism."

It was always both, it was an intertwined issue. Miscarriage of Acchild can fuck right off with his "it was always about ethics only" shit when he got big digging into the universities trying to push this shit into games. That had nothing to do with journalism.

Game Journo's being corrupt as shit meant more shilling of shitty indie games and also their scaremongering articles that made devs feel uncomfortable making games that may be offensive. I remember one article where some middle eastern dev said he was afraid to make a game about his own culture because a bunch of white SJWs from san francisco who write such filth would shit on it and start a controversy. He said he was aggressively told by a few people that "YOU BETTER DO IT RIGHT".

With that issue alone, it shows how the journos pushing this moral panic damages gaming, which is both irresponsible journalism and pushing the SJW shit. Also what happened to Brad Wardell, the artciles written about him calimed he sexually harassed a female employee, which made it hard for him to get loans since the banks and investors would ask him about that shit since it turned up on google. The spin on the articles was the "rampant sexism in gaming", and they listened and believed some cunt who had to publicly apologise since she made it up. From both a journo and SJW agenda angle it was shit.

Gamegate was both issues together since in many cases like I mentioned they were intertwined issues.
