The Angry Video Game Cuck
Re: The Angry Video Game Cuck
His wallet will certainly suffer. Only an idiot (Forky) would abandon such a lucrative side job because some internet spegs have deemed it time.

It's not some hipster nerd observation, it's reality. Compare his non-nerd video views to his nerd video views. It's incomparable. James knows this.Bartnopolis wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2017 9:45 pmDunno where you're getting that redditor observation from. I don't keep constant tabs on the CineMassacre channel but the non-AVGN stuff always nets at least around 150k views upon their debut. With that said, I share Rusty's view that no one will suffer (except this thread, maybe) if James were to retire AVGN sometime in the near future.asdf wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2017 8:20 pmThe second he retires AVGN is when he fades into internet obscurity. The majority of his fans aren't there for his film reviews or his casual gaming sessions. They're there to hear the nerd shout, "shitload of fuck," at old, crappy video games.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2017 9:57 amThe recent episodes (or what few of them come out once in a while) are okay to watch, but it's evident that James grew bored of the character several years ago and he simply doesn't know of a proper way to retire it

Re: The Angry Video Game Cuck
I still think he could drop the nerd. I'd be much more interested in him doing longer videos focusing on single old movies and I think I'm not the only one.
RLM barely does any Plinkett stuff anymore and I'd actually argue that the last Plinkett videos weren't all that great. I wouldn't miss them in their current state and the same goes for the AVGN.
Hell, less acting and more James just talking about shit he enjoys is something I've wanted from him since the GT days. Just have Mike fuck off from that stuff.

You're not, but people like us are the minority, comparatively speaking. It's not an overwhelming minority, but it's not safe enough for him to drop it completely and not lose a good portion of his viewers.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2017 1:10 amI still think he could drop the nerd. Has that every worked for an eCelebrity? Dropping their signature act and transitioning into some other genre?
Doge Walker immediately comes to mind. When he dropped the Nostalgia Critic, everyone dropped him.

Because he did that way too late, the replacement was immediate and he's been hanging on his insular website with it's incestious fanbase for way too long.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2017 1:20 amHas that every worked for an eCelebrity? Long, analytical videos about media have been a trend for quite a while now. James could do that for old movies and slowly fade out the nerd.
It's really no different from any other business. When you've really gotten stale it's already too late. Unless you're totally fine with a constant decline.
Counter question, has it ever worked for an internet nobody to hold onto the same old shtick without diminishing returns? CineMassacre would already be dead and buried if the AVGN was the only thing James did.

RLM carried on in defiance of everyone telling them that no one gives a fuck about anything they do besides Plinkett.
James has passion and insight into movies so I think he'll do just fine. He only does a nerd video once in a blue moon anyway. Christ simply saying he's NOT going to review Ghostbusters made him relevant again.

It was never the only thing he did, though, it was just the one that got the most popular.

Back then it definitely was. He didn't start doing all sorts of shows until many years after that.

Re: The Angry Video Game Cuck
That and his non-critic stuff was complete shit and completely different to what he does. Half in the Bag is similar to the Plinkett stuff, not as in depth or anything but more like a talk show. Both shows are film analysis. James' cinemassacre stuff is slightly different but he is still analysing media in some way. Doge did some bullshit sketch garbage that was long and had a plot. His movies were terrible but relied on the crossover aspect for people to give a shit, if the others weren't there for them and he just had actors they would have been hated even more. That was essentially what Demo Reel was.Kugelfisch wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2017 1:30 amBecause he did that way too late, the replacement was immediate and he's been hanging on his insular website with it's incestious fanbase for way too long.Liar Revealed wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2017 1:20 amHas that every worked for an eCelebrity? Doge should have kept doing the sketches he did initially like this:
And kept them on youtube.
