place, getting overwhelmed, then struggling to clean. The more he shamed me, the more I couldn’t clean because the more depressed I became, and eventually it was hard to get out of bed. I always kept myself clean; showered everyday, but it’s the only thing I’d get out of bed to do.

It’s almost as though if you keep throwing dirt at a flower instead of water and giving it sunshine, it won’t grow. Felt like I was constantly hit with dirt, expecting to thrive.

I also dated a person who would tell me “It’s okay. We’ll tackle your place together.” And cleaned with me. Then they body doubled me. And now, I’ve basically turned it around and keep my new place extremely clean/controlled.

Some neurodivergent people can carry out tasks better if a person is there with them. They don’t need to help or do anything, just the presence of another person can be motivating.
