Oh, and I got to watch the OG Naked Gun movie again.


They don't make 'em like they used to. If anything this refreshed memory has only made this reboot trailer even more puzzling. Sure there was always slapstick and some mild cartoon violence, but Frank Drebin never had actual disguise magic that went above and beyond cartoon logic. Not even Bugs Fucking Bunny can just ignore the conservation of mass when putting on a disguise (because it's funnier when the disguise sucks ass, but people still fall for it).
JFC. Did they just felt like inflating the movie's budget by 100+ million for fun or something?

I've been sick as a dog the last couple weeks. I needed some levity so I checked off one of those classic movies that I've never gotten around to watching.

The Blues Brothers. Maybe it was because I was sick, but I didn't find it very funny. It had some good car chases strung together with musical numbers and the absolute thinnest of plots. It's also way too long at 2 and a half hours. I don't hate it, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

I've seen "Blues Brothers" in theaters a few times over the past decade or so. It plays really well in the setting. People clap and have fun. Something about it that may not translate well to new audiences is that it used to be unheard-of for comedies to have over-the-top productions with things like dozens and dozens of car crashes. The excess is the joke.
