PURPLE RAIN (1984)
I've never seen this in a theater, but would like to because I'm curious how many unintended laughs it gets today. In the realm of music stars who essentially play themselves in a film, Prince may be the most awkward actor of the bunch. He's comfortable onstage with a guitar in his hands, but when he has to ACT in dramatic scenes in which he goes through the heavy emotions of dealing with an ugly homelife due to his bully father, the results are not pretty. He's not good at this. When he's not making music, Prince is a closed book and when the film asks him to open up, he talks like he's not sure what the words he's saying mean.

It's still an enjoyable movie though because it's so extremely 80s, which is a very appealing thing to me and other elderly people.

The most politically incorrect moment is the scene when Prince hits his leading lady, Apollonia, in the face and sends her crashing backward into a bedroom dresser. Today, this would a heinous act and the whole movie would revolve around it, but "Purple Rain" treats it like it was no big deal. It wasn't a GOOD thing to do, but everyone blows it off. Sometimes a dude smacks a bitch, but if he feels bad about it afterward all is forgiven.

Of course, its only natural the best movie Prince was involved in was his concert movie lol.
