Re: Movie Thread
Looked at the budget adjusted for inflation, Great Escape would have cost about 40 million in Current Year money, though I'm sure Disney could hike those numbers up for some fucking reason.
I think there's a few reasons a mid budget pulpy actioner couldn't be made today: one, the word 'mid-budget', its sort of coming back, I saw an action movie called Monkey Man, that only cost about 10 million, and was a wide release, and left the production company in the black - but pitching something that isn't a CGI orgy to big studios right now is still a dead end.
The second is I think it would flop. And it'd be one of those confusing flops, like The Fall Guy from last year.

They really love pretending they won when really they got their shit pushed in before their former colony saved their ass big time.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2025 9:15 amEDIT: While reading recent reviews, I also learned something that I didn't know, which is that in the UK "The Great Escape" is remembered as a holiday tradition. Apparently, British television showed it every Christmas for some decades. I like that.

Saw Wolf Man it goes without saying if you seen trailer but it’s a remake in name only has nothing to do with Larry Talbot.
It’s a mediocure horror film could’ve been better but for some reason the plot is so condensed everything just flys by and it feels anticlimatic. Good effects and acting that’s all
I’ll give it really.

Re: Movie Thread
Den of Thieves 2 I actually really enjoyed. Was surprised at how quickly it moved, Gerard Butler takes a lot of shitty scripts, but is good in the projects with good scripts. Unfortunately that's like...300, Copshop and nothing else lol. Maybe the first Den of Thieves now that I'm a fan of this franchise, apparently. Butler's great in this, anyhow.
Great performances, great dialogue, good action, feels very Melville, was thinking of Le Samourai a lot watching it. Shocking to see a current year movie that's 2 and a half hours long, and the reason its two and a half hours is not because it shoved a bunch of shit in, but because its a slow burn. And it actually works!
I've come to also think O'Shea Jackson Jr is a better actor than his dad, he gets a lot of great moments in this.

Really enjoyed first Den of Thieves. I have a soft spot for Gerard Butler and his thick Scottish accent trying to sound American cause his stuff rarely tongue in cheek.

Do they want to, though? What if they let it happen because they're too pussy to do it themselves?

Well, it's only took me 25 days to finally get around to it. I'm rarely in a movie-watching mood but I had the tab open and just got it done with.Rapeculture wrote: ↑Wed Jan 01, 2025 3:11 amI got to see Double Indemnity the other day with my dad. Man, what a razor sharp script and a perfect ending. Peak film noir.
Great movie! The main setup is easy to guess, you even get it spelled out within the first ten minutes, but it takes some twists and turns I did not see coming.
It's a very watchable movie, proving the dogfucker Adam wrong yet again. I'd actually hate a modern version. The very subdued atmosphere and soundtrack fit the mood of the movie better than current times shit.
It didn't feel like its 105 minutes of runtime at all but also didn't overstay its welcome. The acting was good throughout.
What I especially like about old movies is the old cars and technology you get to see. It's a big part of why Giallo is my favourite genre. It adds to the entertainment for me.
I'd absolutely recommend the movie to anyone! It's available on the Internet Archive in very good quality, so there's no reason not to.
