Re: Movie Thread
I recommend Outlaw Josey Wales, too. I like how Clint fucks with you in terms of the movie's polidicks. A Confederate Soldier on a vengeance quest ends the movie founding a hippy commune with two women and an Indian.

Re: Movie Thread
I've posted about good movies before, but on DHI I find that it's more fun to talk about trash.
"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" is one of the greats. Italian westerns are a fun genre. They're extra violent and mean.
The last good movie I watched was "Crumb", the documentary about Robert Crumb. I saw it when it came out in theaters in 1995 and I bought the Criterion disc during their recent sale. It's a great film about bizarre outsiders. Robert Crumb isn't even the strangest person in it. That's his shut-in brother Charles Crumb, who was a talented artist in his own right, but he never pursued it and never moved away from his mother.
I love the simplicity of the old trailer:

Re: Movie Thread
In shitty movie news, James Mangold is promoting his new Bob Dylan movie (which looks good, I want to see it) and has addressed his Indiana Jones bomb. I find his remarks interesting.
Indiana Jones is not a realistic character and the movies have never been realistic. He survives through absurdities (escaping a plane on a life raft in "Temple of Doom") and film editing cheats. So when you try to get "serious" with him as a sad elderly man whose life is a wreck, it feels false. It's not in the spirit of these movies.
It's almost making a serious Bugs Bunny movie. Yosemite Sam has Stage 4 cancer and before he goes he wants to finally kill that rabbit. Meanwhile, Bugs is depressed and divorced and doesn't feel like living anymore anyway. Looney Tunes Presents,,,, a somber meditation on mortality!
My thoughts:"You have a wonderful, brilliant actor who’s in his eighties. So I’m making a movie about this guy in his eighties, but his audience on one other level doesn’t want to confront their hero at that age. And I am like, I’m good with it. We made the movie. But the question is, how would anything have made the audience happy with that, other than having to start over again with a new guy?“
“And then here come lifelong heroes from my childhood into my life going, ‘We have something for you to work on.’ It was a joyous experience, but it hurt in the sense that I really love Harrison and I wanted audiences to love him as he was and to accept that that’s part of what the movie has to say—that things come to an end, that’s part of life.“

Re: Movie Thread
I see some Hollywood drone is once again thinking the audience only cares about superficial traits.
"You didn't like the movie because [main actor] is female/black/too fucking old".
The problem isn't that he's old (though that will likely limit the stunts he can pull), it's what you did with the character. Nobody wants to see one of their favorite characters become a sad, miserable old fart who just wants to roll over and die.
And don't tell me that an Old Man Indie can't work. JoJo pulled it off flawlessly.

Autism attracts more autism. Sooner or later, an internet nobody will attract the exact kind of fans - and detractors - he deserves.

Re: Movie Thread
It's not even in character, tone be damned. I appreciate that Jones would be depressed after his son dies, but I don't think he'd be an alcoholic wreck. He's just inherently not that emotional as a person. Remember, this is a guy who was raised by Sean Connery to be independent, has travelled all over the world and spent decades as a bachelor.Lindsay's Liver wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 6:02 pmMy thoughts:

An 80-year old Jones would be more grim, more melancholy, more grumpy, sure. But he would otherwise just be doing his thing. Maybe retired to some distant third world country to study archeological finds in peace.

They had to make Indy into a poor miserable sod so Phoebe Waller Cunt could shine. The result was predictable and Manhole has no one but himself to blame for it.

This right here is the problem! She's insufferable and can't act. I will never watch a movie she is in.Le Redditeur wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2024 8:09 pmThey had to make Indy into a poor miserable sod so Phoebe Waller Cunt could shine.
