What are you playing?

Talk about the life consuming, celibacy inducing hobby that is all the rage these days.

I miss the days when JRPGs were actual JRPGs.
Like the time when the vast majority of playtime was spent on brain-dead grindings?? Fuck actual typical JRPGs with a cactus. I'd rather watch Europa. Only good JRPGs are dead JRPGs or atypical ones like, like.... ahhh
Melroon or somethingShow
That being said, indie JRPG-likes are probably more JRPG than actual JRPGs, even though you have to be really careful with woke shit.
don't know if they are woke-free, just examplesShow

It's not even the grinding. Does fuckall for you in SaGa, anyways.
What I mean are real JRPGs with real party-sized combat that is turn-based (as God intended), not some tortured Action RPG wannabe with a crappy interface, an even crappier camera* and "I'm helping~"-tier buddy AI that is trying to gaslight you into thinking there's still a whole party fighting.
If I want real-time excellency I can just start up shit like Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter or Armored Core.

*) I swear every single real-time JRPG I've ever touched has a battle camera that eventually got on my nerves hard, including shit like Tales of Symphonia which people keep telling me is the greatest Tales there ever was and ever will be.
Okay, Star Ocean is the exception because the entire battle arena actually fits on a single screen for once.

brain-dead grinding
Do you remember when faggot urinalists were defending it, claiming it was about the Japanese philosophy of autistically repeating the same task over and over while climbing the metaphorical mountain?
It was just an excuse for not knowing any other way to make the game longer and harder.

I haven't played nu-FF7 and don't plan to, because it looks bland as shit compared to the OG. I've heard the second game is basically open world asscreed garbage.
Worse.
It's the openworld mediocrity + the tedium of Yakuza series minigames + Nomura's fanfic garbage rolled into one, complete with excessive levels of mind-numbing padding strewn throughout.

Padding, eh? Do they still only remake 1 hour of OG FF7 game time  ?

Oh, you mean old western CRPGs but instead made by slant-eyed peadophiles.
If you can ever get over your weeb pathology, just play Wizardry already, instead of pining for a store-brand knockoff with downs.

Should've said Might & Magic. Wizardry has more Japanese titles than Western ones.

Japanese copies, which is exactly why I said it.
Might & Magic is the superior game series up to a point, though.

Don't forget Ultima. Road Blitish is responsible for many of the ideas recycled into Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy. At the end of the day, it all traces back to D&D tho.

Even jrpgs without explicit class systems still use D&D combat archetypes when designing party members.

Yup. That's quite alright as well.
Not that I'd want all CRPGs to strictly follow p&p rules. Memorising spells is pretty much only a thing in the Goldbox games and armour reducing chance to hit instead of damage was pretty much done for the last time in Daggerfall.

But some systems just plain work and just about none in rhe nu-FF games did.
